Michigan Basketball: Moe Wagner and D.J. Wilson Could Enter NBA Draft
By Matt Snyder
Michigan basketball standouts Moe Wagner and D.J. Wilson could enter the NBA Draft this season.
The Michigan basketball team could be losing two key players this offseason as both Moe Wagner and D.J. Wilson are considering entering the NBA Draft. This comes according to a tweet by Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated.
Fischer’s sources tell him that neither Wilson nor Wagner have hired an agent, so they haven’t lost any eligibility yet. Per NCAA rules, they’ll have until April 10 to withdraw their names and retain their eligibility. The process allows them to explore their potential destiny in the draft without fully committing themselves yet.
Wagner and Wilson were integral members of the Wolverines basketball team that won the Big Ten Tournament and reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Both big men showed an outstanding ability to score the ball both inside and outside. Wilson shot over 37% and Wagner shot 39% from the three-point arc this past season.
Both will need to continue to mature physically to make a big impact on the defensive end at the next level, but Wilson took a big stride forward in that regard down the stretch. He came up big on the defensive end against Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Wagner still seems to get lost on defense at times — and has a tendency to commit frustrating reach-in fouls — but such is not unexpected from young players. More reps should help him out tremendously in this regard.
Whether or not either ultimately decide to make the jump this year, it seems unlikely that they’ll play out their eligibility at Michigan.
