The Detroit Tigers continue their series against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon with another 1:10 p.m. game.
The Tigers only managed two runs of offense against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, but came away with the 2-1 victory. Starting pitcher Matt Boyd bounced back after a rough first outing and pitched six scoreless with six strikeouts, two walks, and only one hit allowed.
Both of Detroit’s runs came in the fifth inning when James McCann launched his third home run of the season, driving in Justin Upton in the process. Minnesota would plate a single run in the ninth inning off of closer Francisco Rodriguez but that’s all the scoring they could muster for the game.
Today the Tigers will turn to Michael Fulmer who’s looking to build on his solid performance against the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day in Detroit. Fulmer pitched six scoreless innings in that game and fanned four batters.
The Twins will turn to Kyle Gibson who will make his 100th career major league start. Gibson owns a career 4.60 ERA and a 15.7% strikeout rate which is a several percentage points below major league average.
