NFL Draft 2017: Detroit Lions Seven-Round Mock Draft 4.0
By Zac Snyder
Round 1
While most expect the Lions to end up with a 2017 draft class heavy on defense, Bob Quinn has described himself as a best player available kind of guy. That means we shouldn’t be surprised if the Lions’ first round pick ends up being something different than expected. On such player who might seem “off script” is Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis.
Wide receiver isn’t the team’s biggest need but that doesn’t mean Davis wouldn’t fill a need – both short and long term. With Anquan Boldin‘s contract expiring and Andre Roberts moving on in free agency, the Lions have more than 80 receptions from last year that need to be replaced.
Corey Davis could fill a chunk of that production while getting the Lions’ ahead of the curve for when Golden Tate‘s contract expires after the 2018 season.
NFL Prospects coming from the MAC and other small schools face questions about the level of competition they played but Western Michigan regularly played against Big Ten teams and was every bit the stud he was nearly game-in and game-out.
