The Detroit Lions have made their third pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, choosing Northern Illinois wide receiver Kenny Golladay in the third round.

The wait is over as the Detroit Lions have made their third pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. This one came a little later than originally scheduled, as Bob Quinn makes his first draft day trade as general manager of the Lions.

Moving down from pick 85 to 96, the Lions made a potentially big addition

Who: Kenny Golladay
What: Wide Receiver
Where: Northern Illinois
When: Round 3, Pick 32 (96 overall)
Why: The announcement may not be met with a lot of applause from Lions fans but Bob Quinn has found a huge target in the passing game. At 6-4 and 218 pounds, Golladay has elite size but is much more than a big body as he has athleticism to match.

A physical specimen, Golladay is also known for a solid pair of hands and an ability to make catches away from his body.

Golladay adds much-needed wide receiver depth behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones with the hope that he can develop into a number one or two down the line.

The third round might be higher than predicted for Golladay, but by trading down to the last pick before the third round compensatories, the Lions keep it from being a big reach and pick up an additional fourth round pick in the process.

Barring another trade, the Lions’ next pick is the 18th pick in the fourth round, 124 overall.
