The Detroit Tigers will activate injured first baseman Miguel Cabrera from the disabled list on Tuesday, according to Evan Woodbery of MLive.

Miguel Cabrera’s stay on the disabled list won’t extend beyond the 10 day minimum as the Detroit Tigers plan to activate him ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Indians. This report comes from Evan Woodbery of MLive.

The Tigers slugger tweaked a groin muscle in a loss to the Minnesota Twins ten days ago. Outfielder JaCoby Jones was hit in the face with a pitch the very next day.

We learned that Cabrera was able to take batting practice and do some running in the outfield on Friday. He’s apparently progressed enough to resume his spot in the lineup. We’ll have to see if he’s able to play in the field right away or if Brad Ausmus will give him time to find his form while serving as the designated hitter.

JaCoby Jones spent the weekend on rehab assignment with the AAA Toledo Mud Hens. He’s probably fine to return to the major leagues from a physical standpoint, but the Tigers could opt to keep him on assignment to get some more minor league plate appearances under his belt. He had been struggling at the plate before getting hit with the pitch.

Minor league rehab assignments can last up to 20 days for position players, so the Tigers could theoretically keep Jones in the minor leagues until the middle of the month before they would have to either bring him back to the majors or officially option him to AAA. It’s unlikely that the club would allow the situation to linger, however.

The Tigers will have to make some tough decisions as players return to health. Both John Hicks and Jim Adduci have been hitting the cover off the ball in their opportunity to fill in, and sending either down would seem unjust at this time.
