The Detroit Tigers announced after Thursday’s game that outfielder J.D. Martinez would be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

The Detroit Tigers will soon get their full lineup on the field. After Thursday night’s win over the Los Angeles Angels, manager Brad Ausmus spoke to media members and told them that J.D. Martinez would be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press passed along the news on Twitter in the wee hours of the morning.

According to MLive, the Tigers will place Jim Adduci on the disabled list after he hurt himself in batting practice. Adduci was scratched from the lineup on Thursday as a result and forced the Tigers to make a decision on Martinez a bit sooner than maybe they would have liked.

From the same MLive article by Evan Woodbery:

"“Ideally, (Martinez) would have gotten another couple of games in Toledo but he’s got over 50 at-bats between his rehab assignment and extended spring training,” Ausmus said. “That’s quite a few at-bats. He’ll more than likely be in the lineup (Friday), then maybe sit on Saturday and play on Sunday. We’ll probably ease him into it a little bit.”"

With Adduci out, the Tigers were down to Tyler Collins, Mikie Mahtook, and Andrew Romine to fill center field and right field duties. Martinez will give them another option to mix in, even if he can’t take over right field duties every single day quite yet.

Martinez had been struggling to find himself in his AAA rehab assignment but he hit a home run yesterday in what ended up being his final tune-up game in the minor leagues.
