Quarterback is the most important position on the field but it is unique in that it is one of the rare positions a team doesn’t want to have to go more than one deep on their depth chart.

The Detroit Lions are no exception. With Matthew Stafford solidifying his standing as the team’s franchise quarterback last season, the team’s fortunes hinge on his ability to stay healthy to not only be on the field at all times but to produce at a high level.

Stafford has given the Lions stability at quarterback for much of his career, especially since Jim Bob Cooter took over as offensive coordinator during the 2015 season. That being said, Stafford is not the only quarterback on the offseason roster and won’t be the only quarterback on the regular season roster.

The starting quarterback job is not up for grabs, but what happens behind Stafford is not settled and may not be for quite a while. The backup quarterback job won’t be the biggest position battle to watch during Lions training camp but it will be a battle nonetheless.

With that in mind, here is a look at the Lions’ current quarterback situation.
