Toronto Blue Jays prospect shortstop Bo Bichette is batting a league-high .399 for the Lansing Lugnuts in the Single-A Midwest League.
Lansing Lugnuts’ shortstop Bo Bichette, a prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system, is batting .399, far and away the highest batting average in the Midwest League and the second-highest mark in all of Class-A baseball.
Bichette, 19, was a second-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2016 and immediately made his mark in the Gulf Coast League last season, batting .421 with a .459 OBP, .732 slugging percentage and 1.182 OPS in 91 at-bats for the GCL Blue Jays in 2016.

Bichette started at shortstop on opening day for the Lansing Lugnuts in 2017 and has been giving Midwest League pitchers a hard time since, picking up 103 hits on 258 at-bats as of June 30. His batting average of .399 is 69 points ahead of the next-best batter in the Midwest League and his average reached .400 on June 15 after a 7-for-8 performance in a doubleheader against the South Bend Cubs. His average is the second-highest in all of Class-A baseball this season, behind only Brendan Rodgers, who hit .400 with the Advanced-A Lancester JetHawks before being promoted.
Bichette is not a power hitter, with nine home runs so far this season, but he has batted in 48 runs. He also has an on-base percentage of .462, slugs .642 and has an OPS of 1.105.
He was ranked as the number-five prospect in the Blue Jays’ system and the 99th-ranked prospect in Minor League Baseball. He and Lansing teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr.—the Blue Jays’ top prospect—will represent the Blue Jays at the MLB Futures Game in Miami on July 9.
Bichette is the son of former four-time All-Star Dante Bichette and survived a near-fatal burst appendix last year.
