NBA free agency: Detroit Pistons agree to deal with Langston Galloway
By Zac Snyder
It has been a quiet start to the 2017 NBA free agency period for the Detroit Pistons but they have agreed to a deal with Langston Galloway.
NBA free agency opened at midnight, opening up the ability to for players to agree to terms with new teams. It has mostly been quiet on the Detroit Pistons front but according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, they’ve agreed to terms with free agent guard Langston Galloway.
According to Wojnarowski, it’s a three-year deal worth $21 million.
Galloway signed with the New Orleans Pelicans last offseason but was traded to the Sacramento Kings in the DeMarcus Cousins trade. The two-year deal had a player option for 2017-18 at $5.4 million, which he declined. Smart move, considering he will now average $7 million per season.
It’s not a sexy signing but it’s easy to see how Galloway fits in Detroit. Three point shooting was a problem area for the Pistons last season and Galloway should be capable of providing some improvement next season. His 39% three point shooting would have led the Pistons last season.
The Pistons are a team needing to find creative and cost-effective ways to improve given their salary cap situation. Since it will take going over the salary cap to retain Kentavious Caldwell-Pope when he signs and offer sheet, the Pistons don’t have much money to work with as they try to return to playoff relevance in the Eastern Conference.

Adding Galloway helps build the roster more efficiently since he adds to depth at point guard but can also play off the ball. When it comes to the Pistons rotation next season, Galloway can help fill two spots off the bench behind the starting point guard and shooting guard.
