Against the Jets

While the starters are playing on Saturday, the Lions linebackers should match up well with the Jets. Matt Forte is not going to play; the veteran running back is nursing a hamstring injury. Bilal Powell has also been nursing an injury, resuming practice only on Tuesday because of a neck injury.

That leaves the Lions dealing with a poor offensive line, and inexperienced running backs as their opposition. Last week Elijah McGuire ran six times for seven yards, and added a reception for a one yard loss. He is likely to see the bulk of the Jets snaps with the number one offense. As the starters give way to backups in the second half.

The Jets tight end group is also lackluster. Austin Seferian-Jenkins was once a second round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but quickly wore out his welcome. He is an athlete but not a great football player. He is another nice opportunity for the Lions to ease their rookie middle linebacker in as the new starter.

Next: The Lions offensive line is still a work in progress

Later in the game, the Lions reserves will face Jordan Leggett. He is a similar player that the Jets took in round five of the 2017 Draft. Both Jarrad Davis and Jalen Reeves-Maybin will have achievable goals in week two of the preseason.
