The Michigan football team will begin the 2017 season on Saturday, but we wouldn’t be good fans if we didn’t look past the game in front of us in an attempt to assess the season as a whole.

Will Michigan be a force in the Big Ten East and challenge for their first-ever trip to the Big Ten Championship Game? Will 2017 be a rebuilding year as the program looks to fill the holes left by last year’s monstrous NFL draft class?

Ever since Jim Harbaugh took over as the team’s head coach in 2015, Michigan’s expectations have been sky high. The program has re-emerged on the national scene with a pair of 10-win seasons, but they haven’t yet been able to put themselves on top as THE team to beat in the Big Ten.

Some football pundits point to 2018 as the year when Michigan’s roster will see a convergence of both talent and experience, but the season in front of us can’t simply be overlooked. The success or failure of the 2017 will go a long way toward setting up the teams of 2018 and beyond.

Here’s a game-by-game look at the Wolverines’ 2017 schedule with predictions for each contest.
