Michigan football: Game-by-game predictions for the 2017 season
By Matt Snyder
Game 11 at Wisconsin Badgers
If my predictions so far are correct — and there’s no reason to expect they should be — Michigan could be pulling into their penultimate regular season game with their destiny in their own hands. Sure, a loss to Penn State was a setback, but wins in their final two matchups would put them in very good position in the Big Ten East race. Wins would probably be enough to secure a trip to Indianapolis.
Unfortunately, Michigan ends the season with a couple of scary matchups. Camp Randall Stadium is never an ideal site for a must-win game. Although the Michigan-Wisconsin series has been relatively even in recent history — they’ve split the last eight meetings — the Wolverines haven’t beaten the Badgers on the road since 2001 (when John Navarre was the quarterback).
Michigan will be thoroughly tested in this game, but it could very well be one of the times that their relative youth and inexperience causes a hiccup. Losing at Wisconsin is rarely a “bad loss,” but this one could end Michigan’s hopes for a Big Ten title, depending on the landscape of the rest of the division around them.
Prediction: Loss (9-2)
