Michigan football: Game-by-game predictions for the 2017 season
By Matt Snyder
Game 6 at Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana hasn’t beaten Michigan at football since 1987 (with the next most recent win coming in 1967), but they’ve given the Wolverines trouble in each of the last two seasons.
In 2015, Michigan converted a fourth-and-goal in the final five seconds to tie the game and force overtime. They were able to break up a pass attempt on Indiana’s own fourth-and-goal in the second overtime and escape Bloomington with a win.
Last year Michigan battled a blizzard as backup quarterback John O’Korn started the game as a fill-in for the injured Wilton Speight. O’Korn wasn’t good — he threw for 59 yards and completed 44% of this passes — but running back De’Veon Smith bailed the team out with two touchdowns and 158 yards on the ground in a game they trailed in the third quarter.
Michigan should be a two touchdown favorite this year, so hopefully the close calls are in the past. Nominal road game caveats apply, but Michigan should be the dominant team unless something catastrophic occurs. I don’t know what that might be at the moment, but the Wolverines could head into the second half of their schedule with an undefeated record.
Prediction: Win (6-0)
