Michigan State football: Game-by-game predictions for the 2017 season
November 18: vs. Maryland
While the Terrapins don’t boast much of a passing game, Maryland will bring a good rushing attack to East Lansing, led by Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison and a deep group of returning linemen.
On defense, Maryland upgraded their pass rush during the offseason and return most of a pretty good secondary. Their rush defense was their biggest issue in 2016, which works out well for Michigan State in this matchup, but a lot can happen by the end of the season, so if the Terrapins get their front seven sorted out and can load the box, Michigan State might need to hope that one of their young receivers has developed into a true star.
Maryland won this game last year and improved during the offseason, and they will be the preseason favorites to win this matchup in 2017 as well, but it’s basically a toss-up. Maryland 27 – Michigan State 24 (2-9)
