Week 2: at New York Giants

The Lions hit the road to take on the Giants for the second year in a row. Last year’s game can be marked as the beginning of the end as it started a three-game losing streak to end the regular season, going on to be a four-game losing streak with the Wild Card loss at Seattle.

It was the first game following the finger injury Matthew Stafford suffered the previous week against the Chicago Bears and while that played a part in the loss, it can’t be viewed as the overriding issue. A Zach Zenner fumble deep into Giants territory ended a drive that should have ended in points and the team’s two scoring drives resulted in only field goals.

Being more opportunistic could have resulted in a win for the Lions but they didn’t rise to the occasion when necessary. Will things be different in the 2017 meeting at MetLife Stadium?

It be nice to say for certain that they will but I’m not so sure. Without a more effective running game and the ability to put consistent pressure on Eli Manning, the Lions will be leaving New Jersey with a loss again this season.

Prediction: Loss (1-1)
