The Detroit Lions have placed punter Kasey Redfern and tackle Corey Robinson on IR and signed two players to take their place on the active roster.

Kasey Redfern took advantage of his opportunity with the Detroit Lions by putting together a nice preseason while filling in for Sam Martin. With Martin’s injury lingering into the regular season, Redfern stuck on the 53-man roster into the regular season for the first time in his career.

It was surely a thrill for Redfern to suit up in week one, but it was a disastrous debut. A bobbled snap leading to a turnover on downs deep in Lions territory was bad enough, but the play ended Redfern’s season as it resulted in a significant knee injury.

Now on their third punter, the Lions announced the signing of Jeff Locke. He was originally a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2013 NFL Draft, going ten picks before the Lions drafted Sam Martin. Locke signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent this past offseason after Pat McAfee decided to retire, but was cut before every playing a regular season game for the Colts despite $1.25 million in guaranteed money.

Joining Redfern on IR is offensive tackle Corey Robinson. He was on the PUP list for most of the preseason but was activated on September 1 and was included on the initial 53-man roster. However, Robinson was a gameday inactive in week one and now sees his season most likely come to an end.

Tackle Emmett Cleary has been signed to fill Robinson’s spot on the active roster. He appeared in 13 games for the Dallas Cowboys last season, including one start.
