Detroit Lions news: What they’re saying about week 2 win over Giants
By Zac Snyder
Detroit Lions news takes a look around the web at what is being said about the Detriot Lions’ Monday Night Football win over the New York Giants.
At 2-0, the Detroit Lions sit alone atop the NFC North. Do convincing wins over the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants suddenly make the Lions favorites to win their first NFC North division title? That might seem like a massive overreaction on the surface but there is data to back up such an argument.
After last night’s game the Lions moved up to 12th place in the ELO rankings on FiveThirtyEight.com. That’s behind the Green Bay Packers, who check in at number six, but what’s interesting is what the ELO forecast sees for the Lions’ and Packers’ playoff chances. Despite placing lower in the rankings, the Lions have the better overall playoff odds (61% to 59%) as well the better odds to win the division (41% to 40%).
Perhaps co-favorites is more fitting, but even that feels good to say at the moment. Of course, what a predictive model has to say about the division race or playoff chances is nice to think about, it ultimately up to the Lions to live up to the suddenly bullish outlook.
Here is a look at what is being said about the game from around the web.

In beating the Giants, the Lions became just the third NFC team to start 2-0. Next week they host one of the other three, the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons. The wins over the Cardinals and Giants were nice, but the Lions’ week three meeting with the Falcons will give us a real indication where the Lions stand in the NFC picture.
