The Michigan State Spartans will look to improve after losing to the Notre Dame FIghting Irish in a blowout last week when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday

The Hawkeyes were handed their first loss last week, a 21-19 loss to the #4 Penn State Nittany Lions, in which the upset was averted by a touchdown on the final play in Iowa City.

Senior running back Akrum Wadley leads the Hawkeyes’ run-heavy offense, carrying the ball 79 times for 338 yards in their first four games. Wadley also leads the team in receiving with 227 yards. Sophomore quarterback Nathan Stanley is completing 61% of his passes and has thrown 12 touchdowns to only one interception this season. Nick Easley leads the team in receptions with 18.

Defensively, led by senior linebacker Josey Jewell, the Hawkeyes have bent but not broken, giving up nearly 400 yards of offense per game but only 19.8 points.

The Spartans, led by head coach Mark Dantonio and sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke, are coming off a 38-18 drubbing by the rival Irish, a game in which the Spartans committed three turnovers despite gaining nearly 500 yards of offense.
