The Detroit Red Wings start a four game road trip tonight as they head to Ottawa to face the Senators. The Red Wings beat the Wild on Thursday night.

The Detroit Red Wings opened Little Caesars Arena with a bang on Thursday night. They beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 in front of a raucous home crowd.

The Wild thought they scored the first two goals of the game but after review both goals were overturned due to goaltender interference.

In the second period, Anthony Mantha would become the first player to score a regular season goal at LCA. Dylan Larkin would add to the Red Wings lead just 23 seconds later. The Wild would get two goals of their own in the first five minutes of the third period to tie the game at two.

But Henrik Zetterberg broke the tie and Martin Frk added an insurance goal late in the third. Jimmy Howard got the start and was tremendous. Howard stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced and bailed out the Red Wings several times in this game.

Mike Green also had a very good game. He got an assist on all four goals including assisting on both power play goals for the Red Wings.

For the Red Wings to have a shot at the playoffs, their special teams has to play like they did on Thursday. The Red Wings went 2 for 5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. They also need Mantha and Larkin to produce and be their best players. Thursday night gave Red Wing fans a taste of how promising those two players are.

Tonight the Red Wings head to Ottawa to face a Senators team who they beat in three of four games last year. The Senators are coming off a 5-4 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday. These division games are very important as Ottawa is also a borderline playoff team. Here is all the important info you need for tonight’s game:

As of this writing the Red Wings haven’t named a starting goalie yet for tonight’s game. With how good Howard played on Thursday, I would guess he would get the start tonight.
