Detroit Lions news: Haloti Ngata heads to injured reserve
By Zac Snyder
Detroit Lions news laments the loss of Haloti Ngata to injured reserve and takes a look around and what else is being said about the team.
Haloti Ngata is a big presence in the middle of the Detroit Lions‘ defensive line. It’s now a big hole that needs to be filled with news this morning that the team has placed Ngata on injured reserve. Ngata exited Sunday’s loss to the Panthers with an elbow injury and was eventually ruled out for the rest of the game. Now it could cost him the rest of the season.
The Lions are bringing back a familiar face in the corresponding move. No, it’s not Andre Fluellen; it’s Caraun Reid. Originally a fifth-round pick of the Lions in 2014, Reid was a somewhat surprising cut prior to last season. He was claimed on waivers by the San Diego Chargers, where he spent the 2016 season before tearing his ACL last October. Reid was waived by the Chargers prior to the start of the 2017 season.
News of Reid’s addition to the roster came with confirmation from the team that they have also added defensive lineman Datone Jones. That move was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport yesterday but was not announced by the team until this morning. Linebacker Thurston Armbrister was waived to clear room for Jones.
Jones was the Green Bay Packers’ first round pick in 2013 and has also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, making the Lions his third NFC North team of his short NFL career.
Here is a look at what else is being said about the Lions around the web.

With an offense struggling and a defense now dealing with injuries, the Lions face a big road game at the New Orleans Saints on sunday before hitting their bye week. It’s too early to call it a must win, but a loss gives back the gains the team has made in the early portion of the schedule.
