The Michigan basketball team picked up a good road win at Texas last night but Moe Wagner left the game with an ankle injury.

The Michigan Wolverines‘ 59-52 win over the Texas Longhorns last night was the kind of win that will be a sure plus on their resume come tournament time. It was a win in a true road game against a Power Five conference team that won’t be an also-ran in their conference.

But as the Wolverines were putting the finishing touches on the win, they had to do so without Moe Wagner who left with an ankle injury in the second half. Wagner went to the locker room and returned to the bench but was ruled out for the rest of the game.

So far, it looks like major crisis has been averted.

John Beilein had the following to say about Wagner’s injury after last night’s game (via MLive):

"It looks like a slight ankle sprain. I really didn’t see. They gave me the old ‘day to day.’ We’ll wait and see. We’ve been here before. We don’t think it’s serious at this point."

MLive’s Andrew Kahn also notes that Wagner was seen limping as he left the arena but was not wearing a boot and was not on crutches.

That’s great news, especially since Michigan has the luxury to take it slow with Wagner over the next couple weeks. The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday when they face Detroit at Little Caesars Arena. They then close out 2017 with home games against Alabama A&M and Jacksonville.

Michigan doesn’t have an opponent they shouldn’t be able to easily beat without Wagner (if they had to) until Big Ten play resumes on January 2 at Iowa.

Best case, Wagner doesn’t have to miss any time. But if he does, his absence should be short and shouldn’t have a detrimental impact on the team.
