Nevin Lawson

When it comes to big plays, Nevin Lawson has usually been on the wrong side of them, too often in the form of a big pass interference call. Lawson has yet to intercept a pass in his NFL career despite substantial playing time – 47 games including 40 starts.

Lawson’s rookie contract ends after this season and it appears the Lions are ready to move on with Teez Tabor, who has received more playing time as the season has gone on. Darius Slay has only further cemented himself as one of the league’s best corners, leaving just the other outside corner spot to figure out for the long term.

Lawson had the opportunity over the last two years to lay claim to that spot but hasn’t shown enough to check that box off the need list. Quite the opposite, in fact. Lawson ranks 112th of all qualified corners per Pro Football Focus. Not great, Bob!

Rather than retain Lawson with free agent dollars, expect the Lions to look to other options while Lawson lands a spot elsewhere.
