Tavon Wilson

Bob Quinn’s under the radar free agent additions haven’t always paid dividends but Tavon Wilson is one that certainly has. Wilson was a pleasant surprise in the safety rotation last season, outplaying both Rafael Bush and Miles Killebrew. That provided some stability heading into 2017 with Killebrew learning on the fly and Bush exiting in free agency.

Wilson wasn’t quite as good this season before suffering a season-ending injury on Thanksgiving Day. The two-year deal Wilson signed two offseasons ago expires and the Lions could look to make Quandre Diggs’ move to safety permanent.

Maybe there is a spot for Wilson’t return if the Lions prefer Diggs at cornerback and aren’t comfortable committing to more playing time for Killebrew. With free agency before the draft, bringing back Wilson could be a convenient insurance policy, but Wilson might also find a more secure situation elsewhere.

A return isn’t out of the question, it just doesn’t look like the most likely scenario as the 2017 comes to an end.

Next: Caldwell's success was impossible. Why? What now?
