The first period was dominated by the Detroit Red Wings after playing the night before. They seemed to bring the momentum from the previous game. The Wings jumped out to a quick offense of push, missing a few open nets. Halfway through the period, Jonathan Ericsson put the Detroit Red Wings up 1-0. That is how the period closed out with wings staying up 1-0.

2nd-period breakdown

In the second period is when the game got rough for the Wings. The Flyers came out firing to start the period. The Flyers tied the game up with the first two minutes of the second period. The next face-off the Wings got a good push for Henrik Zetterberg but he was denied by Brian Elliot. To make things worse for the Wings, the Flyers gained a man advantage in the final minute. The Flyers made the Wings pay for it too. Twelve seconds into it the power play Jakub Voracek made it 2-1.

With a puck thrown to the front of the net by Glendening, then Frans Nielsen poked it through to tie the game at 2-2. Tyler Bertuzzi had a chance to untie the game moments after and shot a bouncing puck high and wide. This game went into overtime tied at 2-2.

What happened in overtime

Overtime did not last long for the Wings. Twelve seconds into the extra period on a lob pass to Travis Konecny, Dylan Larkin tried to intercept it and when he tried he was getting harassed by Konecny. Larkin lost the puck to Konecny, who the fired the game-winner past Mrazek.
