Every offseason brings change and that means the future for some Detroit Lions players is in doubt. Ziggy Ansah is one such player. Will he stay or go?

The 2013 NFL Draft has turned out to be a minefield of busts but the Detroit Lions did well for themselves by taking Ziggy Ansah with the fifth overall pick. Ansah was somewhat of a risk given he was a raw talent with limited football experience but he has developed as hoped and has easily been the team’s most impactful pass rusher in his five years as a Lion.

He broke through in year three after two years of showing promise, posting 14.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2015.

It looked like the Lions had a star in the making but that 2015 season was the last time Ansah was able to appear in all 16 regular season games. Nagging injuries have set in over the last two seasons, costing Ansah not only a handful of games played but limited his effectiveness in several more.

Ansah bounced back for a strong finish to the 2017 season but he has now played out his rookie contract, including the fifth-year option. That means Ansah is heading for unrestricted free agency when the new league year begins in March.

Will Ansah be wearing a different uniform in 2018, or will he and the Lions find a way to stay together for next season and possibly beyond?
