Detroit Lions free agency predictions: Haloti Ngata
By Zac Snyder
Haloti Ngata has been a strong veteran presence since joining the Detroit Lions defensive line, but has he played his last down in Honolulu blue and silver?
Haloti Ngata hasn’t bee a direct replacement for Ndamukong Suh but he has helped fill a hole in the Detroit Lions‘ defensive line since the 2015 offseason trade from the Baltimore Ravens. He just isn’t as disruptive of a player as he was in his nine years in Baltimore but the Lions defensive line for the acquisition.
Now 34, coming off a season-ending injury and an expired contract, it stands to wonder whether Ngata’s days with the Lions are over. He has admitted to contemplating retirement in the past but has also shown an ability and desire to continue playing.
If he does continue playing, there is no guarantee he does so as a Lion given the amount of change expected in both the roster and the coaching staff. There are compelling reasons why the Lions and Ngata should stay together, at least for one more season, but it’s not a given and there are arguments to be made that it’s time to call it a career, or at least a Lions career, for Ngata.
Will Ngata be wearing a Lions uniform in 2018? Will he be wearing the uniform of another team in 2018? Will he be watching football from his couch in 2018?
