It’s not a big move but the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls have reportedly agreed to a deal on NBA trade deadline day.

It remains to be seen just how much excitement there will be at today’s NBA trade deadline but the Detroit Pistons are getting in on the action with a minor deal with the Chicago Bulls.

Per Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, the Pistons will acquire point guard Jameer Nelson from the Bulls in exchange for center Willie Reed. Charania adds that the deal also includes a swap of 2022 second round picks.

Whether or not the picks actually do get swapped is at the Bulls discretion, as noted by Vincent Goodwill.

The move makes for a short stay for both players with their most recent teams. Reed was acquired in the blockbuster deal that sent Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Pistons while Nelson was sent to the Chicago as part of a package so they New Orleans Pelicans could acquire Nikola Mirotic.

Reed has only made three appearances for the Pistons and is currently appealing a suspension that would see him out six games as a result of a domestic violence incident. Nelson did not appear in a game for the Bulls but was averaging over 20 minutes per game in 43 appearances for the Pelicans.

Nelson gives the Pistons another veteran point guard option in their rotation while Reggie Jackson remains out due to injury. It is also a reunion for Nelson and Van Gundy. Nelson, now in his 14th NBA season, had his best seasons in the late aughts under Van Gundy with the Orlando Magic.

It’s not a major deal but one that could help the Pistons as they look to re-gain a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They may also not be done, as the Pistons are reportedly in discussion to send Brice Johnson to the Pelicans in exchange for Dante Cunningham.

The NBA trade deadline is 3 p.m. this afternoon so stay tuned for any updates as the deadline appraoches.
