NFL Combine 2018: Defensive line, linebacker workout schedule
By Zac Snyder
On-field testing at the 2018 NFL Combine hits the homestretch as attention turns to the defensive side of the ball with defensive linemen and linebackers.
Of all four days of on-field workouts, today’s might be the most interesting for the Detroit Lions. A new head coach often means sweeping changes but it appears Matt Patricia is content to leave quite a bit in place on the offensive side of the ball. The same can’t be said on defense, taking the intrigue in today’s workouts up a notch as the focus moves from offensive prospects to defensive prospects.
It feels like Bob Quinn got a jump start for Patricia with last year’s selection of Jarrad Davis in the first round and A’Shawn Robinson in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Other than those two building blocks, Quinn has held off making big time moves for the front seven in the draft or free agency.
That figures to change with Quinn bringing in Patricia as his new head coach. The Lions’ current roster gives Patricia a nice situation to step in to but also a lot of opportunity to shape his defense, particularly the front seven, to his own liking. You can bet he’ll have no problem finding some prospects to like today.
