NFL Draft 2018: Detroit Lions seven-round mock draft
By Zac Snyder
Round 5
The best story to come out of the 2018 NFL Combine is Shaquem Griffin and it’s not close. After almost not receiving an invite to the event, Griffin went out and was one of the stars. As if posting 20 bench press reps while using a prosthesis because he doesn’t have a left hand wasn’t enough, Griffin absolutely backed up the game speed that shows up on film with a blistering 4.38 second 40-yard dash.

Griffin is a little bit of a linebacker/safety tweener but he’s just the kind of guy any team should want on and off the field. The Lions are certainly no exception as they have been shown to value character. The Lions have also clearly valued versatility and that will only increase as the defense becomes more multiple under Matt Patricia.
In fact, smaller and faster has been more of the league-wide trend and Griffin is similarly sized to Jalen Reeves-Maybin, drafted by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. If Reeves-Maybin’s size didn’t scare off Bob Quinn, Griffin’s should either.
