Round 7

Any pick this late is as much about hoping to catch lightning in a bottle as it is filling a need. With no sixth round pick due to the trade for Greg Robinson last year, the Lions will be in for a quiet second half of draft day three barring a trade.

Defensive end turns out to be a major deficiency the way this mock draft scenario played out so it makes sense to try rounding out the mock draft class with one.

SMU’s Justin Lawler very well may end up more like Pat O’Connor than Anthony Zettel but a try-hard defensive end with high football character feels like the kind of player the Lions would give a chance.

Bob Quinn has also shown himself to value special teams play and Lawler’s traits may play well there even if he isn’t able to earn more than spot snaps in the defensive rotation.
