Other trade targets around the league

Richard Sherman is available and on a one year contract. A more productive way to look at Sherman than thinking of him as a $10 million player coming off an Achilles tendon surgery would be to think of him as a $3.3 million experiment. Sherman is a big and physical player, not a small and athletic player. He has also played a lot of deep third zone coverage in his career. He is the type of corner that usually transitions to safety for the last few years of his career. Sherman can likely be had for a conditional 2019 seventh round pick.

Tyrann Mathieu could be on his way out in Arizona. The Lions could use a player with the versatility and playmaking ability of Mathieu. He can line up in the slot, or safety and be productive. Mathieu would only cost the Lions about $2.5 million more than Ebron for the 2018 season and is under contract for three additional seasons. Mathieu is only 25 years old but is coming off his least productive season as a pro. The Lions would be gambling that a 2016 MCL team is now completely healed. There are rumors that Mathieu could be cut before $5 million dollar roster bonus comes due on March 14.

Eli Apple has not done well in the bright lights of New York with the Giants. He was a top ten pick in 2016, and in the eyes of most at the time that was a good decision. The team brought aboard multiple veterans at the position that offseason as well. Apple has not exactly played spectacularly and has labeled as immature in the media.

Apple is a press man coverage specialist with a contract that would cost the Lions just under $4.3 million over the next two seasons with a team option to retain him for a third season. The Giants are another team that has drafted a similar player to Ebron recently. Tight End Evan Engram posted 64 receptions as a rookie in 2017. This is an incredibly unlikely trade to involve Ebron.

There are not a lot of obvious trade partners for Ebron. It is likely that the team will get only a day three pick, and $8.125 million in salary cap space for letting go of their former top ten draft selection.
