Fresh off a Big Ten Tournament Championship, it’s on to the NCAA Tournament for the Michigan basketball team with Montana in the first round tonight.

Michigan basketball enters the 2018 NCAA Tournament as one of the nations’ hottest teams. Their run through the Big Ten Tournament culminated in a second-straight championship as the Wolverines ran through Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan State and Purdue for four wins in four days.

Thanks to the Big Ten’s decision to move up the conference tournament to accommodate scheduling at Madison Square Garden, the Michigan Wolverines faced an 11-day layover between games. John Beilein used the time to rest, practice and scrimmage to vary the intensity over the course of the time off. Now it’s time to find out if the gap led to the benefit of rest or the downside or rust.

Up first for the Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament is the Montana Grizzlies who won the Big Sky Tournament after finishing as the conferences regular season champion as well.

Michigan and Montana have just one common opponent on the year. Montana lost at Penn State 70-57 in mid November. Michigan was a 71-62 winnner at Penn State in late February.
