With the Major League Baseball regular season right around the corner, Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez looks to be back to his normal form.

After having a far below standard season last year the Detroit Tigers are looking have a bounce-back season. Finishing last in the American League Central, Tigers fans hope for improvement from last year.

After missing most of the second half last year, Victor Martinez is having one of the best spring trainings. Martinez is hoping to stay off the disabled list this year and become a key contributor in 2018.

Spring Training

After watching Victor Martinez in Lakeland, it looks like he is back to his normal self after his heart problems that shortened his season last September. The 39-year old switch hitter is hitting .319 in 47 at-bats through spring thus far. Martinez power seems to back up after hitting one of his five home runs yesterday in the down pouring rain.

The Tigers have not had the best spring training, posting a 9-13 record and being fourth to last in the Grapefruit League. The brightest spot on the team so far has been Victor Martinez. He is tied for the team lead in home runs. He is second on the team in batting average and leads the team in slugging and on-base and slugging percentages.

Season Preview

With the Major League Baseball regular season right around the corner, we can preview what the Tigers have to offer this upcoming season. After another tough conclusion to the season last year, the Tigers look to improve and a very dismal season last year.

Posting a 64-98 record last year and finishing last in the division the Tigers look to at least scratch the 70-win mark. Victor Martinez looking as good as he has, the goal of at least 70 wins is possible for the Tigers.

The Tigers will struggle on the pitching aspect of the game just like they have in years past. Seventy wins might be hard to get on paper for the Tigers, but they might surprise us fans.

Hopefully, Victor Martinez can keep up the hot bat he has carried through most of spring training and will push the Tigers to the goal of 70 wins.
