Michigan basketball returns to NCAA Tournament action tonight in the Sweet 16 against the Texas A&M Aggies in the West Region from Los Angeles.

This Michigan basketball season wasn’t supposed to turn out this way. After losing a lot of experience from last year’s team, no one would have blamed the Michigan Wolverines for taking a small step back this season after last year’s squad won the Big Ten Tournament championship and made a run to the Sweet 16.

But this year’s squad has mirrored last year’s in many ways. Like last year, the Wolverines just kept getting better and better, ultimately coming together to win four games in four days to win a second-consecutive Big Ten Tournament championship. This year’s squad bettered last year’s by earning a three-seed and they’ve made good on it by reaching the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament once again.

The Wolverines find themselves the top-seeded team remaining in their entire half of the bracket as March Madness has lived up to its name this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are favorites to reach the Final Four, but it does mean the path looks more promising than it did on Selection Sunday.

Next up will be seventh-seeded Texas A&M in the West Region semifinal to be played tonight at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Michigan is considered a favorite by oddsmakers but
