The Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates were rained out in what was supposed to be Opening Day in Detroit on Thursday. They’ll try again on Friday.

Opening Day in Detroit is something like a holiday. Fans pack downtown regardless of whether or not they plan on actually attending the game. Detroit was ready to party on Thursday but Sister Nature wasn’t going to have any of it. With rain coming down in the morning and hanging in the forecast all day, the game was pushed to Friday.

So here we go, Opening Day take two.

The boys of Summer will make their 2018 debut in dry, but hardly even Spring-like conditions. The sun may poke through from time to time but an expected game-time temperature of about 40 degrees will have players bundled up and often huddled around the dugout heater.

Unfortunately, this isn’t shaping up to be the kind of season that will have fans huddled around the television. Thoughts of a rebuild on the fly are long gone and the organization seems fully committed to a rebuild that will be a longer process.

The best hope for Tigers fans this season is to hang around .500 for as long as possible and hope we get some encouraging performances from younger players. Best case, the shape of a young core emerges this season. As long as a path forward for the future becomes visible, this may not be a totally lost season.

Here’s all the information you’ll need to find today’s Opening Day redo on TV or streaming online.
