Round 7

This late in the draft teams will be looking to unearth a diamond in the rough. Sometimes you find one and sometimes all you get is dirt. A seventh-round pick on Dwayne Washington in the 2016 NFL Draft hasn’t produced a gem through two seasons, drawing into doubt if Washington has a future with the Lions considering Bob Quinn’s desire for change.

If he’s interested in trying the seventh-round route again, perhaps he would have better luck with Fordham’s Chase Edmonds.

Edmonds was heavily used at Fordham with only injuries during his senior season keeping him from finishing his college career with 1,000 carries. It’s hard to fault the Rams coaching staff for using him so heavily considering good things usually happened with the ball in his hands. He finished his Fordham career with 938 carries for 5,826 yards and 67 touchdowns while adding 86 catches for another 905 yards and seven touchdowns.

Not heavily recruited due to a lack of size, that same deficiency will be part of what keeps Edmonds from going higher in the draft. He’s proven doubters wrong once before, perhaps he’ll do it again.
