Detroit Lions news: NFL releases 2018 preseason schedule
By Zac Snyder
Detroit Lions news takes a look at the team’s 2018 preseason schedule which includes games against the Raiders, Giants, Buccaneers and Browns.
As if there was any doubt about the NFL’s dominance in the landscape of American sports, consider that even the preseason schedule release stirs up at least some interest. The NFL had a coordinated release of the 2018 preseason schedule today, revealing where and when the Detroit Lions will get their game practice in for the regular season.
The Lions begin preseason play by traveling out to Oakland for the start of Jon Gruden’s second tenure as head coach of the Raiders. Fans in Detroit will get their first chance to see the 2018 team in person a week later when the Lions host the New York Giants.
Perhaps the biggest game on the schedule, if there can be such a thing for a preseason game, is the third preseason game that will take place on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only is it notable because the third preseason game is the one in which the regulars will see the most action but because this particular game has been picked up for national television on CBS. As a result, it’s the only game for which the exact date and time has already been set.
Lions 2018 preseason play concludes at Ford Field against the Cleveland Browns. The weekly schedule with the date window for each game is as follows.
Preseason Week 1 at Oakland Raiders (August 9-12)
Preseason Week 2 vs. New York Giants (August 16-19)
Preseason Week 3 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (August 24, 8 p.m. ET)
Preseason Week 4 vs. Cleveland Browns (August 30-31)

The NFL has made a habit of releasing the regular season schedule about a week before the draft so be on the lookout for that starting next week. Of course, we already know who the Lions will play and where those games will take place. We just don’t know when each game will be played.
