According to a report out of Boston, the New England Patriots will make their trip to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions in week 3 of the 2018 season.

Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are scheduled to play against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field at some point in the 2018 season. That much has been known for some time, but we now have an idea of when that game will take place.

According to a report out of Boston, Matt Patricia will face his old team for the first time as a head coach in week 3.

The Lions will host two AFC opponents on the season and reports have it that these will be two of the team’s first three games. The New York Post reported earlier in the day that the Lions would open with the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

Marc Bertrand tweeted earlier that five of the Patriots’ first nine games are in primetime and that their week one game will be a normal Sunday afternoon game against the Houston Texans. That would shift the number to five out of eight games after week one, increasing the likelihood that the Lions and Patriots will be in a prime spot in the schedule.

Rod Wood has said he was against the Patriots being the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day opponent because of the anticipation the Patriots would be a high-profile game even without the holiday attached. It appears Wood got his wish, and his reasoning for the request adds to the speculation that this game will end up in primetime.

Unless there are further leaks, we’ll find out for sure tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET when the schedule is officially released.

[Update: Per Jeff Howe, Patriots-Lions in week 3 will be on Sunday Night Football.]
