NFL Draft 2018: Detroit Lions seven-round mock draft 4.0
By Zac Snyder
Round 3
The Lions could use more talent capable of getting after opposing quarterbacks and Georgia’s Lorenzo Carter would be a nice add. He has position flexibility as he projects as capable of being an outside linebacker in either a 3-4 or 4-3.
We don’t know exactly what the Lions defense will look like since the Matt Patricia era hasn’t officially started on the field but what the Lions did in free agency may give some clues. The Lions added Devon Kennard in free agency to give them more of a pass rushing element from their linebackers as well as some ability to play on the line. Carter would figure into a similar role such that drafting him could lead to one day taking over for Kennard.
Matt Patricia had the opportunity to personally run Carter through some drills at his pro day, getting a first-hand, up-close look at his exceptional athleticism.
Like Bryan a pick ago, this is another pick that makes a lot of sense for the new Lions defense but might be at least a round too late in reality. Carter has received some buzz as a player who could come off the board on Thursday night so hoping for him to drop to the third round sounds like wishful thinking.
