The 2018 draft class will be at least eight players

With a desire to add more picks and the ability to do so, I’ll not only say the Lions end up with a draft class of one more than they are currently scheduled for but at least two more.

Quinn has made a habit of big draft classes in his first two drafts, adding ten players in the 2016 NFL Draft and nine more in the 2017 NFL Draft. It will take some wheeling and dealing to get the 2018 draft class up to eight but that would still be the smallest of Quinn’s short tenure.

NFL offseason rosters are capped at 90 players but the Lions currently have 70. If we predict an eight-man draft class that still leaves room for a dozen undrafted free agents before having to trim anyone from the current roster.

The Lions added 14 undrafted free agents in the wake of the 2017 NFL Draft but it would make sense that some of those guys would displace at least a couple currently on the roster. With that in mind, an eight-player draft class starts feeling like a good number, perhaps even one the Lions have been preparing for with how they’ve set up their offseason roster so far.
