The Green Bay Packers wide receivers

Ty Montgomery was rumored to be moving back to wide receiver for the Packers. It is not because they are loaded at running back and don’t need him there. It is because the once great receiving corp of the Green Bay Packers has disintegrated. The reason Aaron Rodgers has been making noise about not wanting to stay in Green Bay is that the team has been hemorrhaging receiving targets.

Davante Adams is a very good wide receiver. The Packers are paying him like he is a great wide receiver. Adams has never reached the 1000 yard plateau. He has never topped 75 catches. Apparently consistent red zone production is worth a four year $58 million contract. How they are going to get to the red zone in 2018, I am unsure. He is a legitimate WR 1 if you use the scale that there have to be 32 of them; one for each team. He is a top 32 wide receiver. This will be the season he sets career highs in every category because Rodgers has nowhere else to go with the ball.

Randall Cobb is already hurt. He was seen in a walking boot in July. There is reportedly no reason for concern about his availability. Cobb had one good year, then cashed in and disappeared. There has never been concern about his availability. There are hundreds of human beings who could produce at Cobb’s level given the opportunity to play 76% or more of Green Bay’s offensive snaps. He is just not very good anymore. Lest you think that his 66 catch, 653 yards, four TD performance was QB related in 2017, those numbers were as good or better than his 2016 performance with Rodgers under center.

After that, the Packers wide receivers are hope based on nothing. Deangelo Yancey, the 2017 fifth round pick couldn’t get on the field even in a lost season. The Packers drafted three more receivers in 2018. Unless J’mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, or Equanimeous St Brown, all day three picks, step into a WR 2 role immediately, the Packers do not have one.

The Green Bay Packers have the worst wide receiver group in the NFC North.
