Marvin Jones Jr

Jones is quietly making a name for himself in Detroit. He has become Matthew Stafford‘s go-to guy for the deep ball. He has been the No. 2 receiver majority of his career. When he was with the Cincinnati Bengals he was behind A.J. Green.

He came to Detroit and he had big shoes to fill when Calvin Johnson retired. When it was time for him to step up and show what he can do he did just that. Even though he is becoming a household name in Detroit, he is still overlooked across the league; but I think that will change this year.

Jones has the ability to get open and make contested catches. Jones was the best receiver on contested catches. He has recorded over 2000 yards in just two years with Detroit. To put it this way, he recorded a little over 1700 yards in four years with Cincy.

He was second behind Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Keelan Cole in yards per catch last year. Cole had 18.4 yards per catch and Jones was not far behind with 18. He finished the year with 1156 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jones has a well-rounded skill set and is quietly making himself as one of the better deep threat receivers in the league. His connection with Stafford is scary. With Stafford’s accuracy and Jones’ deep threat ability that makes for one heck of a one-two combo. Defenses have to account with the three headed monster of the receiving corps with Golden Tate and Kenny Golladay. That could leave Jones with more one on one matchups. That will give him more opportunities to win those contested catches. I think Jones can improve on his numbers from last year and vie for a Pro Bowl spot.
