DeShawn Shead

DeShawn Shead has been transparent on everyone’s radar because of the increased roles among the players and the star-studded cast in the secondary. Darius Slay and Glover Quin are the leaders in the secondary. There will be expanded roles for Teez Tabor and Jamal Agnew.  Quandre Diggs could move over to safety. Nevin Lawson re-signed with the team. The secondary is catching headlines as a group on the rise. One player that seems to get left out is Shead.

He signed with Lions after Seattle released him. Shead spent most of 2017 rehabbing an ACL injury, he missed the better part of last season. As an undrafted free agent, he knows all about having to claw up to make the roster. His breakout season was in 2016 where he started 15 games and recorded 54 tackles and one interception.

He will provide much needed veteran depth to a young Lions secondary and what you would call a versatile chess piece. Shead can play anywhere among the secondary positions either be corner or safety. With the expected scheme change for Patricia’s defense, Shead will be a valuable piece to slot in where he is needed.

This is a deep secondary with a lot of bigger names on it. Shead might be able to carve out a role as the fifth defensive back. Watch out for him. He will have a bigger impact than most think. With his versatility to play anywhere, Shead will be a dangerous weapon.
