The Green Bay Packers safety group

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is the only legitimate NFL starter in the Packers safety group. He is unhappy with his contract situation and looking for an extension. There have been reports that Clinton-Dix is looking for top ten safety money. The rest of the NFC North should hope that the Packers brain trust give it to him.

In 2016, when the Packers were facing desperate teams with no choice but to throw the ball in an effort to keep up with an Aaron Rodgers led offense, Clinton-Dix looked like a Pro-Bowler.

In 2017, when the defense was facing less favorable situations because the offense was terrible, Clinton-Dix was just a guy. He performed well enough that his job is in no danger, but not well enough to make a difference for the Packers.

Josh Jones, the Packers 2017 second-round pick, is the likely starter beside Clinton-Dix for the 2017 season. Jones was awful as a rookie. He clearly struggled with his responsibilities in the team’s defensive scheme.

His athleticism is freakish, and if he does put it together, the Packers might have a deadly pair on the back end. The bad vastly outweighed the good in 2017, and there are reports that Jackson is struggling to begin training camp. It is not looking good.

Behind Jackson and Clinton-Dix are a menagerie of undrafted free agent players with no significant future in the league. The team is already one short of a solid pairing, if Clinton-Dix were to go down, this very well could be the worst safety group in the NFL.
