The new Detroit Lions front office has done a great job managing cap space. By league standards, some of the team’s players are vastly underpaid.

The Detroit Lions have big goals for the 2018 season. With the hiring of Matt Patricia as the new head coach, the team looks to take it up a level.

A time before General Manager Bob Quinn, it always seemed like the Lions were cap stricken year in and year out. With restructured deals and high priced free agents, it led to great players leaving and the inability to bring in new free agents. Because of not putting out a competitive roster the Lions were always towards the bottom of the league.

Quinn has not gotten himself into any deals that would hinder the team financially. He has been able to bring in free agents on team friendly deals and resign his own players in the process.

Some teams go out and spend everything they can to build super teams. Yes, the splash signings are great for headlines and might work out short-term, but later down the road, it could bite them. Also, if the free agents don’t pan out it would be hard for a team to get out of it and hurt the franchise for the foreseeable future.

Quinn hasn’t been afraid to hand out money especially towards the offensive line. With all that spending, he still has flexibility in cap space for just in case scenarios. Draft picks have been exceeding expectations filling cheap value in cornerstone positions. Some of these players could have easily have gotten more money on the market, but Quinn is building something the players can get on board with.
