Graham Glasgow has come up a bit lame during joint practices with the New York Giants. Here are the Detroit Lions that could see more time as the first team center as a result.

The Detroit Lions offensive line is supposed to be better than last year. That is despite the fact that it is returning four out of five starters. One of the key factors to that assumed improvement is that the health of the unit in 2017 was horrendous. It is statistically unlikely that the Lions could have so many injuries.

Taylor Decker missed the first half of the season on IR with a shoulder injury. T.J. Lang and Rick Wagner also missed games with injuries. In all the Lions started nine different starting line combinations in 16 games.

Today Graham Glasgow was assisted off the field in joint practices with the New York Giants. He went inside under his own power. This is terrible news for Lions fans. Glasgow was the only Lions starter to not fall victim to the injury bug in 2017. Coach Matt Patricia declined to comment after practice.

Glasgow was supposed to be the linchpin for the improved line. He is entering his third season and earned his role as the leader of the line group last year. He is the one making the line calls for the new, and much more successful running scheme.

Glasgow is one of the success stories for general manager Bob Quinn’s draft strategy. He was a third-round pick in 2016, and he has developed into a fine starter for the team.

The Lions let former starting center Travis Swanson walk in free agency this offseason. He had not played well since before a series of injuries during the 2016-17 seasons. He did, however, provide a familiar veteran option for the middle of the offensive line.

The Lions need Glasgow, but the NFL is not a league in which teams can rely on their players to be available for the entire season. Here are the possible replacements for Glasgow on the Lions roster.
