Some of the Detroit Lions took advantage of their preseason playing time against the Oakland Raiders and helped their roster stock. Other players struggled and hope for a better tomorrow.

The Detroit Lions saw a plethora of good in their preseason opener. The rookie class looks to be paying dividends already. Frank Ragnow, Kerryon Johnson, Tracy Walker, Da’Shawn Hand, and Tyrell Crosby all had a great day. Ameer Abdullah looks to be securing his spot in the Lions running back corp. Anthony Zettel was a bright spot on the defensive line.

Other players who are fighting for roster spots had a strong outing. One, in particular, was Hakeem Valles. Valles was on the practice squad last year but earned a call up the final game of last season. A day where the tight ends were quiet, Valles took advantage of the playing time and had himself a day catching two passes for 26 yards. He is an under the radar player who is making a case to earn a spot. With a strong preseason, he will make the coaches decision hard to keep four tight ends or not.

Unfortunately, not everyone had a great day against the Raiders. These players are hoping to bounce back in their game against the New York Giants.

Here are four players who need to redeem themselves this week.
