Following the Cooper Moore selection, the Detroit Red Wings would fill out their draft board with four more picks with two in the sixth and two in the seventh rounds. The final four picks were composed of two forwards, a defenseman, and a goaltender.

Elmer Söderblom- Forward

The Detroit Red Wings used the 159th selection in the draft to select a seventeen-year-old defenseman, Elmer Söderblom. He is a BIG boy, checking in at six-foot-seven, 220-pounds for the Frolunda HC of SuperElit. The left-handed shot nabbed seventeen points through forty games, not a huge scorer yet, but there is time to improve on this.

The scouts on Elite Prospects have said that Söderblom is “more of a stickhandler than a forward” who crashes the net and is quite physical. Being six-foot-seven definitely helps and allows him to crash the net, and take the puck to the net if he wants too. He has his stick handling ability too, which adds to the size factor, a lot of positives in those regards, with youth meaning he will need time to develop.

Gustav Borglund- Defenseman

Soon after selecting Söderblom, the Red Wings selected Gustav Berglund who is a part of the Frolunda HC U20 team in the SuperElit. The eighteen-year-old stands six-foot-two, 194-pounds as a right-handed shot. Berglund is coming from the same organization as Söderblom does, which could bode well in terms of future development of the two. Berglund split time between U18 teams and then jumped to the U20 team where he finished the season out. Berglund did not have any scouting information available on Elite Prospects.

Kirill Tyutyayev- Forward

In the seventh round, the Red Wings made a move landing them the 190th and 191st overall picks. With the 190th overall selection, the Detroit Red Wings opted to go with a forward, Kirill Tyutyayev. The eighteen-year-old forward played for Avto Yekaterinburg of the MHL this past season where he scored nineteen goals for sixty points in a matter of sixty games. Tyutyayev is a five-foot-nine, 146-pound frame which is a mobile forward. Being a later pick, there is not a plethora of information available on Tyutyayev.

Carter Gylander- Goaltender

Immediately after the Red Wings selected Tyutyayev, they closed out their draft board for the 2019 NHL draft by selecting goaltender Carter Gylander. The eighteen-year-old Canadian netminder stands six-foot-five, 172-pounds. Gylander has played for the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the AJHL where he posted a 2.43 Goals Against Average (GAA) and .915% Save percentage. Gylander could be considered as a long-term investment close to that of Filip Larsson.

The Red Wings selected Gylander knowing that he will return to the AJHL this coming season, play the season through before attending Colgate University to become their NCAA level netminder. From what can be found on Gylander, he is a goaltender with plenty of upside that should have Red Wings fans psyched up for the future years of his career. Look for Gylander to play through in the AJHL and then develop further at Colgate before he receives his entry-level contract.
