Destination #1: Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves general manager(GM) is Alex Anthopoulos who traded Boyd to the Detroit Tigers back in 2015 in exchange for David Price. There’s some familiarity between Anthopoulos, Boyd, and Tigers GM Al Avila making the Braves a top destination to land the southpaw. The current Braves rotation features a rookie sensation Mike Soroka who won’t be leaving the rotation any time soon, recent signee Dallas Keuchel, Max Fried who has proved himself worthy of a rotation spot, and Julio Teheran the longtime Braves veteran.

Boyd would slot in as that fifth guy since Kevin Gausman and Mike Foltynewicz have been pretty bad this year, and the Braves are genuinely looking at making a run for the postseason and hopefully late into the postseason. In terms of a return, the Tigers could see names like Kyle Wright, Joey Wentz, and Greyson Jenista according to a mock trade from Matthew Browning over at Tomahawk Take. Wright being the big name there as a former first-round pick of the Braves, who have not had the most impressive of seasons.

Destination #2: Los Angeles Dodgers

A team that lost to the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 World Series is indeed out for revenge after reaching the World Series and losing the last two years. In Moneyball, Brad Pitt (as Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane) says “If you lose the last game of the season, no one gives a s***” and that couldn’t describe the Dodgers situation any better. The Dodgers are going to be aggressive in the trade market to ensure they have what it takes to get the job done this postseason and  Boyd is the perfect insurance policy for them.

Currently, the Dodgers rotation is being carried by the success of Hyun-Jin Ryu, Clayton Kershaw, and Walker Buehler. Kenta Maeda has been decent for the Dodgers as well with good seasons coming from Ross Stripling and Rich Hill who is currently on the Injured List (IL) for the Dodgers. If they add Boyd, that would be a great set of arms to be able to throw, allowing them to carry some definite depth into the postseason. The price would most likely be set with GM Al Avila asking for at least one top-tier prospect but possibly asking for multiple top-tier prospects.
