The developers of EA Sports Madden 20 disrespected Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford with his overall rating of 79, which is just absurd.

In the light of training camp opening up, the Darius Slay and Damon Harrison‘s potential holdouts, the Madden 20 ratings seemingly slipped through the cracks. Now Madden 20 ratings will have nothing to do with Matthew Stafford‘s real-life performance this year, but fans in Detroit have to be upset with the fact that the Detroit Lions quarterback was rated at 79 overall.

In numerical order for the top 32 quarterbacks in the league, Stafford came in as the twentieth on the list. Here’s where I take issue with the rating of 79, Andy Dalton is ahead of Stafford. Derek Carr is also ranked higher than Stafford, which cannot be accurate.

First things first, Tom Brady is not the highest-ranked quarterback in the game, and it just seems like should be a given, but at 96 overall he is number two. First in the quarterback rankings is Patrick Mahomes, and it sure seems like Brady should be in the 99 overall club and not at 96, the argument for Mahomes is valid but just seems false.

Back to the Detroit Lions quarterback and his disrespect from EA developers. How does a quarterback like Stafford get a 79 overall? Stafford threw for more yards than Dalton did last season by over 1,000 total yards. Both Dalton and Stafford threw for 21 touchdowns on the season for their respective teams, and both threw eleven interceptions on the 2018 season. Stafford was about 5% better when it came to completion percentage comparing to Dalton’s numbers.

The statistics do not show a vast differential between the two quarterbacks, but on a Lions team that suffered from a faltering offense with a limited amount of weapons after Golden Tate was traded, and a costly string of injuries he managed the offense well.  Even coming off one of his worst statistical seasons as seen above; 79 overall is quite low for Stafford when Derek Carr who was not good at all for the Raiders under new head coach Jon Gruden.

The Madden 20 rating team feels that Marcus Mariota is worth the same overall (79) as Matthew Stafford who (as mentioned above) is behind Derek Carr, Andy Dalton, and Kirk Cousins. Dropping Stafford off from an 85 rating just a year ago in Madden 19 just seems like a bit too much. Maybe with time before the game is released, the developer team can make some changes, but for now, it looks like the 79 overall rating will stand.
